This brief video update shows the project status after completing 2 months and 5 days of The Venus Project Integrated Aquaponics System (#TVPIAS).
As you can see in the video, a variety of crops are grown. The plant biofilter beds are full with spinach initially (many kinds of vegetables are being grown along with the spinach). The fish is Nile Tilapia, reaching by now an average weight of 35 grams (started at 1.5 grams when brought it). The orchard surrounding the protected structure is also shown – you can see the banana and cowpea plants. The orchard is fully integrated – it is drip irrigated by the fertilized water from the fish tank, and in turn it increases the whole system’s diversity and resilience.
Every bit of the available space is used. Vining crops are added to the sides and in front of the protected structure. We continue looking for more creative ways to use the space. Many ideas and more updates on this are coming. Stay tuned.
